How to sell tech accessories on eBay and Vinted

Tech accessories sell on compatibility: buyers need to know it works with their phone, laptop or console. Give the exact model and what it's compatible with, show that it works, and you'll avoid most returns.

Before you list

Before selling anything that connects to an account, such as a smartwatch or tracker, remove it from your account and reset it to factory settings, so the buyer can set it up and your data is wiped.

What buyers check

  • The exact model and model number.
  • What it's compatible with: phone, laptop or console models and connectors.
  • That it works, and how you tested it.
  • What's included: cables, chargers, ear tips, cases, boxes.
  • Battery health for wireless headphones and smartwatches.
  • That it's genuine, not a copy.

Photos to take

  1. The item on a plain background.
  2. The model number on the label or in the settings screen.
  3. Everything included, laid out together.
  4. The item working: lights on, screen on, connected.
  5. Connectors and ports close up.
  6. Any scratches or wear.

The photo station's shot checklist ticks these off as you go, and it works on your phone.

Where it tends to sell

eBay tends to suit tech accessories, as buyers search by model and compatibility and use item specifics to filter.

Vinted has an electronics category and can suit headphones, cases and smaller accessories, especially well-known brands.

Low-value cables and chargers often sell best bundled with the device they belong to.

Packing and postage

  • Use a small box for headphones and smartwatches so they don't get crushed.
  • Coil cables loosely and secure them with a tie.
  • Items with lithium batteries may have postage restrictions; check the carrier's rules.
  • Most accessories fit a small parcel or large letter; check the size on the postage guide.

Not sure which parcel size you need? Check the postage size guide.

Common mistakes

  • Not giving the exact model number.
  • Not saying what it's compatible with.
  • Leaving a smartwatch or headphones linked to your account.
  • Selling copies as genuine.
  • Not testing before listing.

Questions

How do I reset a smartwatch before selling?
Unpair it from your phone in the companion app, which usually removes it from your account, then reset it to factory settings from the watch's settings.
Can I post items with batteries?
Usually yes when the battery is inside the device, but carriers have rules on lithium batteries. Check the carrier's guidance before posting.
How do I tell if headphones are genuine?
Check the build quality, serial number and packaging against the manufacturer's website. If you're not sure, don't describe them as genuine.
