How to sell video games on eBay and Vinted

Game buyers check the platform, the region and whether a game is complete before anything else. Retro collectors also look closely at labels, manuals and box condition, so show everything clearly.

What buyers check

  • Which platform and which version, including special or collector's editions.
  • Region (PAL, NTSC-U, NTSC-J) for older consoles that are region locked.
  • Disc scratches or cartridge label damage.
  • Whether it's complete: case or box, manual, inserts, map, DLC codes.
  • Whether it's been tested and works.
  • For digital extras, whether codes are used or unused.

Photos to take

  1. The front of the case or box.
  2. The back, showing the age rating and barcode.
  3. The disc or cartridge itself, both sides for discs.
  4. The manual and any inserts.
  5. Close-ups of scratches or label damage.
  6. For bundles, all the spines together so titles are readable.

The photo station's shot checklist ticks these off as you go, and it works on your phone.

What to put in the title

  • Game title, then platform.
  • Add region for retro games: PAL is normal in the UK and Europe.
  • Say what's included: complete, CIB, boxed, cartridge only, disc only.
  • Mention the edition if it isn't the standard one.

Example title

Pokemon Emerald Game Boy Advance PAL Cartridge Only Tested Saves Working

Words buyers search for

  • game title
  • platform (PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, PS2, GameCube)
  • PAL, NTSC
  • complete, CIB, boxed
  • cartridge only, disc only
  • collector's edition, steelbook
  • bundle, job lot

Measurements and details to include

  • Platform and region.
  • Edition and any special contents.
  • For cartridges with saves, whether the save battery still holds saves, if you've tested it.
  • For bundles, the full list of titles.

Describing condition

  • Grade the disc separately from the case: 'disc has light marks, tested and plays fine; case cracked on the spine'.
  • Say whether the manual is included and its condition.
  • For cartridges, mention label tears, sticker residue and writing.
  • State that you've tested it and how: 'loaded and played the first level'.

Where it tends to sell

Recent games for current consoles tend to suit Vinted and eBay alike, often in bundles.

Retro and collectable games tend to reach collectors on eBay, who search by title, platform and region and look closely at completeness.

SnapFlip's barcode scan can look up a boxed game from its barcode to speed up listing.

Packing and postage

  • A single game in its case often fits a large letter or small parcel; measure the packed thickness and protect the corners.
  • Wrap cases in bubble wrap so the plastic doesn't crack, and put loose discs back in a case.
  • Boxed retro games need a box with padding so the cardboard box isn't crushed.
  • Bundles get heavy quickly, so weigh the packed parcel.

Not sure which parcel size you need? Check the postage size guide.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving the region out on retro games.
  • Calling a game complete when the manual or inserts are missing.
  • Photographing only the case and not the disc.
  • Posting cases in a thin envelope so they arrive cracked.

Questions

What does CIB mean?
Complete in box: the game, its box or case, and the manual and inserts it came with. Say exactly what's included even if you use the term.
Should I test games before selling?
Yes, if you can. Say how you tested it in the description. If you can't, say so and describe it as untested.
Do download codes still work?
Only if they haven't been redeemed. Say clearly whether codes are used, unused or missing.
